Code of Ethics Agreement

Code of Ethics

I agree to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.

I will:

  • Provide humane, positive reinforcement-based training methods that consider the physical and emotional wellbeing of dogs. I will not employ training techniques that involve pain, fear, intimidation, or undue physical or mental stress.
  • Handle pets in my care humanely, providing for their health, safety and welfare at all times. I will ensure pets under my supervision or boarding are never subjected to abuse, neglect, discomfort or distress.
  • Continually educate myself on the latest scientific research and best practices in dog training and behavior. I will maintain and improve my professional skills and knowledge.
  • Honestly assess each dog's training needs and only provide services I am qualified to deliver based on my competencies, experience and certification.
  • Deliver honest, realistic assessments of training progress and outcomes to clients. I will not guarantee outcomes or provide misleading expectations.
  • Provide clear agreements and transparent billing for all training services. I will not pressure clients into unnecessary purchases or payments.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with clients and refrain from unethical business practices or relationships.
  • Respect client confidentiality and privacy regarding their personal information and training needs, within legal limits.
  • Uphold professional standards in advertising, marketing claims, and communications related to my services, credentials and licensing.
  • Contribute to the reputation of the dog training profession by being a role model and mentor.
  • Act with honesty and integrity in submitting licensing documentation, upholding policies, and representing my qualifications truthfully.

I understand that any violation of this Code of Ethics may result in disciplinary action including license suspension or revocation.

Insurance Agreement

Insurance Requirement

As a licensed dog trainer, I agree to maintain adequate business insurance coverage at all times through one of the following options:

Personal Insurance Coverage

  • Carry my own general liability, professional liability, and animal bailee insurance policies that meet or exceed the minimum coverage limits specified by Tamers. I will provide annual proof of coverage.

OR

Tamers Insurance Enrollment

  • Enroll in Tamers insurance program to receive coverage that meets state licensing requirements. Licensed trainers agree to pay all premiums and costs associated with enrollment in this program.

I understand that continuous insurance coverage through one of these options is mandatory in order to hold an active dog trainer license with Tamers. Lapse in coverage may result in immediate suspension of my license.

By signing below, I agree to comply with this insurance requirement and ensure there is no gap in my coverages during the licensing period.

Continuing Education

Continuing Education Agreement

As a licensed dog trainer, I understand that continuing education is mandatory to maintain my license in good standing.

I agree to complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually through the following:

  • Attending dog training seminars, conferences, or workshops. At least 8 hours must involve in-person attendance.
  • Completing online courses related to dog behavior, training techniques, business practices, safety, ethics, etc.
  • Watching pre-approved recorded webinars focused on dog training best practices and new research.
  • Reading books, publications, or articles on dog psychology, training methods, and related topics.

I will submit documentation of my continuing education activities to Tamers upon license renewal each year. I understand that failure to complete the minimum required hours may result in suspension of my training license.

By participating in ongoing continuing education every year, I will enhance my knowledge and remain current on the latest science-based, ethical approaches to dog training. I agree to pursue education that supports my professional development and delivery of excellent services.

Your one step away to confirming your application and receiving your exam times. A non-refundable application fee of $50 must accompany the application form. The licensing organization will review each application to ensure the individual meets the basic requirements for licensure in that industry.
